Curtas Vila do Conde to showcase Iran’s ‘The Kites’

The 2020 Curtas Vila do Conde in Portugal is to feature Iran’s ‘The Kites’.

The 2020 edition of the Festival Curtas Vila do Conde in Portugal has set to screen Iranian short flick ‘The Kites’.

Directed by Seyyed-Payam Hosseini, the short film tells the story of a boy who falls in love with a girl who lives on the other side of the border.

He tries to talk to the girl over her lost kite.

‘The Kites’ has previously been screened at some global events, including the 32nd Galway Film Fleadh in Ireland, the 2020 Motovun Film Festival in Croatia, and the 70th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) in Germany.

The Berlinale jury praised ‘The Kites’, writing, it “tells us about borders, how they can be dizzying, terrifying and arbitrary. And because it’s a poetic tale that shows us that language can go beyond words and that empathy can be felt from afar.”

The Curtas Vila do Conde is one of the most important cinematographic and cultural events in Portugal dedicated to short films.

All the submitted films will automatically be included in the Short Film Market, attended exclusively by the accredited professionals.

The 28th edition of the Curtas Vila do Conde is slated for October 3-11, 2020.
